During our English lessons, we have been learning about the poem ‘There Are No Such Things as Monsters’ by Roger Stevens. This week, we have had a go at creating our very own rhyming verses but struggled with the rhyming parts.

For homework this week, we would like the children to practice rhyming words!

Homework – 30.06.21

As it is Outdoor Learning Week in school, we have decided to theme our homework around this too!

Outdoor Learning Challenge | Primary 4a 20/21

Mr Jackson and Mrs Lees have come up with a fantastic competition where the children are being asked to design and create a map of our school’s new Outdoor Learning Area. We want to know what the children would like to be included in the new outdoor area and thought it would be brilliant if the children could draw a plan to show their amazing ideas.

Here is the poster that has been created to give you a little more information about the competition:

The children’s entries can also be used as evidence to achieve the John Muir award and also give Mr Jackson some inspiration when it comes to creating the area ready for September!

This homework is to be handed in on Monday 5th July 2021.

Homework 23.06.21

During our Maths sessions last week, we focused on positional language (e.g., up, down, forwards, backwards, left, right). The children really enjoyed the lessons however, we noticed that most of them found it tricky as they did not know their left or right.

For homework this week, we would like the children to learn their left and right and complete the sheets below.

This homework is to be handed in on Monday 28th June 2021.

If you would like any of the sheets printed, please send me an email and I can pop this into your child’s bag.

If you have any issues, please do not hesitate to contact me via email – caroline.bagshaw@taw.org.uk

Jack and the Beanstalk | Fact | FactRepublic.com

For our English lessons this week, we have been focusing on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. All of the children should know the story quite well and shouldn’t find the activity difficult. However, I have attached the story just in case some children need a quick recap!

For this weeks homework, we would like the children to complete the sequencing activity based on the traditional story.

This homework is to be handed in on Monday 21st June 2021.

If you would like any of the sheets printed, please send me an email and I can pop this into your child’s bag.

This homework is to be handed in on Monday 14th June 2021.

Precursive Handwriting

Vale School - Handwriting

Here is the handwriting blog post that I mentioned during some of the parents evening consultations that I had before half term!

As a year one cohort, we have noticed that most of the children do not write in the precursive style that we require in school. One of the reasons we use this is to help with letter formation and to help those children that mirror their letters or have difficulties with writing them back to front.

I have included some examples of what is expected in school as well as some worksheets for you to complete as and when you wish.

A BIG thank you for all your continued support and co-operation at home. Your efforts certainly don’t go unnoticed!

Healthy Diet Clipart - The Guide Ways

As part of our ‘Cooking up a Storm’ week in school, we would like the children to design a healthy lunchbox as part of their homework.

We have spoken about healthy and unhealthy foods in school as part of our D&T and RSHE topics last term so the children should be experts in this!

I have attached a sheet you may wish to use but you can be as creative as you like with this task!
