New Spellings – 30.04.2021

Good afternoon Elm!

This week, in our Phonics sessions, we have been learning the alternative pronunciations of the digraphs ‘ie’ and the letter ‘ea’.  Your spellings all reflect this and are words that we have practised in school and will continue to practise too.

They are:-

  • chief
  • thief
  • field
  • priest
  • shield
  • head
  • dead
  • ready
  • bread
  • steady

These spellings will be tested on Friday 7th May.

They are called ‘Alternative ‘ie’ and ‘ea’ words’ on Spelling Shed.

I shall also be looking at the leader board on Friday morning and rewarding the top 3 on it with Dojo points.  Everyone who goes on Spelling Shed will receive a Dojo.

Homework – 21.03.21

In English this week,  we have begun looking at our new story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’. As the book is set in Africa, we would like the children to research the continent to gain further understanding of the story. This also links to our learning of continents last term!

  • As a minimum, we are looking for at least five facts about Africa.
  • The research you find can be presented however you like. This could be a poster, leaflet, PowerPoint etc. Be as creative as you can!
