Christmas Holiday Homework

I would like you to relax and enjoy the holiday period with your family but we do need to keep our brains ticking over!

Over the holidays, I would like the children to:

  • complete any phonics packs
  • explore Numbots

_____________________________________________________________________________

Phonics

During the last week, the children were tested on all of the phase 2 and phase 3 phonemes as well as the phase 5 phonemes that we have covered so far. There is a sheet in your pack with the phonemes highlighted of the sounds your child is unsure of.

Please ensure that your child is saying the phonetic sound instead of the letter sound. If you are unsure of what this is, please do not hesitate to contact me via email – caroline.bagshaw@taw.org.uk

We have also completed a practise phonics screening check within school and are sending home a check for you to practise with your child.  Please can the children segment each word before blending it to read. This will help the children with their phonics screening test later in the year (June 2021).

These do not need to be handed in when we return after the Christmas holidays.  You are able to keep using them to keep practising both the phoneme-grapheme recognition and the skill of segmenting and blending.

Numbots

I would also like the children to explore the website Numbots – https://play.numbots.com/#/intro

This is a website used by the school for the children to practice their number fact knowledge. The children are to play the games and work up the levels.

Your child’s password should be stuck on the inside front cover of their reading diary.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas holiday! Rest up and be prepared for a new term on Tuesday 5th January 2021!

One final message, from January we will have PE on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

Mrs Bagshaw 😊
