New Spellings – 16.07.2021

Good afternoon Elm!

This week, there will be no spellings set on Spelling Shed as we break up for the Summer Holidays on Wednesday 21st July 2021.

Instead, I would like you to practise being able to read and spell the Year 1 Common Exception Words – these are words that you should be able to spell by the end of Year 1.

I would also like to you to have a look at the Year 2 Common Exception Words (words that you should be able to spell by the end of Year 2) in preparation for next school year.

If you would like any of the sheets printed, please send me an email and I can pop this into your child’s bag.

If you have any issues, please do not hesitate to contact me via email – caroline.bagshaw@taw.org.uk

Good afternoon Elm!

This week, in our Phonics sessions, we have been learning that the phoneme ‘m’ can be spelt ‘mb’ and that the phoneme ‘s’ can be spelt ‘st’ or ‘se’.  Your spellings all reflect this and are words that we have practised in school and will continue to practise too.

They are:-

  • lamb,
  • thumb,
  • climb,
  • comb,
  • listen,
  • castle,
  • Christmas
  • house,
  • mouse,
  • horse

These spellings will be tested on Friday 16th July.

They are called ”mb’, ‘st’ and ‘se’ words’ on Spelling Shed.

I shall also be looking at the leader board on Friday morning and rewarding the top 3 on it with Dojo points.  Everyone who practises their spellings will receive a Dojo.

If you would like to know how your child does on their weekly spelling test, please email me on caroline.bagshaw@taw.org.uk.

Have fun practising!

Homework – 07.07.2021

During our English lessons, we have been learning about the poem ‘There Are No Such Things as Monsters’ by Roger Stevens. This week, we have had a go at creating our very own rhyming verses but struggled with the rhyming parts.

For homework this week, we would like the children to practice rhyming words!

This homework is to be handed in on Monday 12th July 2021.

If you would like any of the sheets printed, please send me an email and I can pop this into your child’s bag.

If you have any issues, please do not hesitate to contact me via email – caroline.bagshaw@taw.org.uk
